Domaine Des Nymphes Rasteau Les Encostes

Domaine Des Nymphes
In 1980, the Domaine des Nymphes was founded on a plot of land in the Queyrarde district of Rasteau. It was in this area that an altar destined for the cult of the Nymphs, dating from the Roman era (and now in the Calvet Museum in Avignon), was unearthed, giving the name of the property. In April 2019, Eric Petitjean bought the property from the Meyer family, giving a new impetus to the estate by modernising the cellar and beginning organic conversion in the vineyard. This Rasteau rouge comes from a parcel of 40 year old vines called called Les Encostes mainly made up of clay-limestone soils. 60% Grenache noir, 25% Syrah, 15% Carignan, made in the traditional way; crushing, destemming, fermentation between three to four weeks, delestage, punching down and regular pumping over. The wine is aged for twenty-four months, mainly in concrete vats. Dark coffee, damson, prune, roasted meats; impressive length; muscular, rich, extracted yet still balanced - all the impact you'd expect from Rasteau
