Zilliken Rausch Riesling Diabas

Zilliken
The Zilliken family traces its wine growing tradition back to 1742. The early generations toiled in Saarburg and Ockfen, but it was Royal Prussian Forest Superintendent Ferdinand Geltz (1851 1925) who laid the groundwork for what would become one of the grandest family-owned estates anywhere on the Saar and Mosel. Ferdinand Geltz was a co-founder of the Vereins der Naturweinversteigerer Groer Ring, an organisation today known as the VDP Mosel-Saar-Ruwer (Verband Deutscher Prdikatsweingter). It promoted the sale of premier quality unchaptalised wines as a way to raise the profile, both domestically and internationally, of the outstanding Rieslings being produced in this wine growing region. Originally formed from cooled volcanic magma, the diabase soil of the Saarburger Rausch comes together with Devonian slate in a remarkable terroir found nowhere else. Rausch Diabas is our top feinherb (off-dry) wine, in a style comparable to a halbtrocken (semi-dry) Auslese. Beneath Zilliken's unassuming house is probably one of Germany's finest wine cellars. It is one of the deepest in the whole Saar valley, with the ideal cool temperature and humidity for ageing their wines. Tasting Notes: Notes of spring blossoms, apricots and white peach are firmly nestled in a silken palate. Bewitching in its depth and its grace. Food Match: This top quality wine blends the characteristic liveliness of the Saar Rieslings with power and opulence, making it the ideal off-dry wine to serve with a variety of fine cuisines. Pairs well with a poultry dish with a fruit-based sauce or side, such as cranberries or cooked plums. Closure: Natural Cork
